Alex Jones’ conspiracy spewing propaganda machine InfoWars is the product of Russian influence according to a new report from BuzzFeed News.
The fake news site has reportedly copied more than 1,000 articles from the Russian state-sponsored news outlet RT. Jones and his supporters allegedly did not ask for permission when stealing the content and packaging it to prey on the least intelligent American audience it could attract.
InfoWars gave a hat tip credit to RT but a representative for RT says the content was republished without consent.
BuzzFeed used BuzzSumo to track the copied content and found that Alex Jones has also stolen thousands of pieces of content from CNN, Breitbart, CNS News, The Blaze, CBC, BBC, VICE, The Guardian, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The New York Post, The Los Angeles Times, BuzzFeed, and Sputnik (another Russian state-run outlet).
“We take under consideration any use of our content without authorization, and proceed with any action we deem appropriate,” RT spokesperson Anna Belkina told BuzzFeed. “We do this on a case-by-case basis, dependent on the resources we have available at the time.”
Federal investigators are currently investigating InfoWars, Breitbart, and other far-right leaning publications to determine if they unjustly played a part in spreading Russian misinformation during the 2016 Presidential election.
InfoWars has clearly been copying and pasting Kremlin-funded news articles and promoting them to its audience. RT has spread so much propaganda that the U.S. Justice Department in September ordered the agency to register itself as a foreign agent.
The U.S. intelligence community has deemed RT to be nothing more than a “state-run propaganda machine” that “has positioned itself as a domestic U.S channel and has deliberately sought to obscure any legal ties to the Russian Government.”
InfoWars in the meantime has been endorsed by the Putin-led Russian government and has aired on state-run TV in Russia.
This isn’t exactly breaking news, earlier this year Democratic Representative Adam Schiff accused Alex Jones of spreading Russian propaganda. Jones responded with a profanity-laced rant:
“You want to sit here and say that I’m a goddamn, f*cking Russian. You get in my face with that I’ll beat your goddamn ass, you son of a b*tch. You piece of sh*t. You f*cking goddamn f*cker. Listen f*ckhead, you have f*cking crossed a line. Get that through your goddamn f*cking head. Stop pushing your sh*t.”
Let’s be clear for a second, Alex Jones is almost certainly a pawn of the Russian government, he’s just too stupid to realize it and the Buzzfeed report proves it.
Welcome to the Red State…
