Senator John McCain’s office announced on Wednesday that he was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. The Republican Senator from Arizona was having a blood clot removed from his brain when doctors made the discovery.
According to scans of McCain’s brain after the completion of the procedure, the cancerous tissue had been completely removed.
McCain’s colleagues in Washington quickly rushed to his side, wishing him the best on Twitter. It wasn’t just Republican lawmakers who showed their concern. Former Vice President Joe Biden, whose own son Beau died from a brain tumor exactly like McCain’s, was quick to praise his long-time friend.
John and I have been friends for 40 years. He's gotten through so much difficulty with so much grace. He is strong – and he will beat this.

One of the most widely spread and appreciated tweets came from former President Barack Obama.
“John McCain is an American hero & one of the bravest fighters I’ve ever known,” Obama tweeted. “Cancer doesn’t know what it’s up against. Give it hell, John.”
