Breitbart might be in support of the Republican party and the Alt-Right but the publication held back no punches on Monday night after President Donald Trump concluded his Afghanistan policy speech.
The website featured a banner headline that completely annihilated the President’s decision to extend U.S. military commitments in the region. The publication called the move a “flip flop” and “reverse course” policy for the President’s administration.
Breitbart journalists them laid into the President by comparing him to his archenemy, former President Barack Obama.
Trump gave his address in front of services members in Fort Meyer, Virginia. The speech was a good testing ground for what Breitbart would do after Steve Bannon returned to run the site he left after taking a job in Trump’s White House.
“Trump’s ‘America First’ Base Unhappy with Flip-Flop Afghanistan Speech,” screamed one of the site’s headlines.
The start of that article attacked Trump’s lack of an actual plan: “President Trump unveiled his plan for Afghanistan after seven months of deliberation Monday evening, announcing tweaks around the edges of the current strategy instead of a different approach.”
In another piece, the publication proclaimed: “His McMaster’s voice: Is Trump’s Afghanistan policy different from Obama?”
A third article then broached the subject of the similarities between Trump’s approach to Afghanistan and Obama’s, claiming that Trump, “specifically echoed his predecessor’s 2009 speech, after acknowledging that the war had gone on too long.”
Breitbart White House correspondent Charlie Spiering sent out a tweet in which he proclaimed that Trump and Obama said their commitments would not hand over a “blank check” to American warmongers.
Breitbart editor Joel Pollack also joined in on the tweet war, stating: “Trump’s #Afghanistan speech was Obama’s speech minus the deadline & details. Like the bit about Pakistan, not convinced we can deliver India.”
Breitbart didn’t even wait for Trump to deliver his speech to begin its attack. Hours before Trump took the stage, an article appeared with the headline: “Erik Prince: Trump will ‘roll over and accept’ same failed strategy on Afghanistan.”
It looks like Steve Bannon is officially back and up to his own tricks. At least this time, he’s proving to be a thorn in President Donald Trump’s side.
