Republican Senator Calls For GOP Health Care Plan To BAN State-Sponsored Single Payer Plans

Republican Senator John Kennedy wants the GOP to pass a health care bill that will make it impossible for states to individually launch single-payer health care plans for their residents. The Louisiana Senator revealed on Tuesday that the single payer ban is already a reality based on current Republican plans.

When The Intercept asked about the status of his legislation, Kennedy said the bill’s cosponsors, Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Bill Cassidy, R-La., told him that the measure already bans single payer, but that he was welcome to offer his amendment either way.

“I don’t think states should have the authority to take money from the American taxpayer and set up a single-payer system,” he said. “Now some people think that that’s inconsistent with the idea of flexibility. But that’s what the United States Congress is for. I very much believe in flexibility. And I know the governors want flexibility. But it’s our job to make sure that that money is properly spent.”

To recap, the Senator believes in flexibility but only if that flexibility serves his own party’s purposes.

The Louisiana Senator and his fellow colleagues in the meantime are attempting to drown the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in add-ons that have the ability to destroy the federal government’s ability to fund social programs. Their attempts also focus on ensuring that individual blue states cannot create workarounds to fund medical and other social programs for their citizens.

Despite controlling both the House and Senate, the Republican Party has not been able to create “repeal and replace” legislation that has gained the necessary votes to destroy ObamaCare. As the party has continued to maneuver around the Democrat-led health plan, they have been met with continuous resistance at town hall meetings, often by supporters of their own party.
