Steve Bannon Fired From The White House

White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is out. Immediately following his ouster, conservative internet news mogul Matt Drudge said the Alt-Right’s biggest supporter had “one hell of a run…” because he was shown the door. Drudge also announced that Bannon may be making his return to Breitbart, the far-right news website he chaired before joining Trump’s campaign in late 2016.

Bannon’s firing was confirmed by the White House on Friday afternoon.

“White House chief of staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. “We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.”

Rumors were circulated for days that Bannon was about to be shown the door. Drudge claims that John Kelly made the final decision to fire Bannon.

The New York Times reports that a person close to Bannon insisted that his departure was the chief strategist’s idea. That unnamed source said Bannon submitted a letter of resignation on August 7. They claim the announcement was going to be made earlier in the week but racial violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, push back that announcement.

Bannon was one of Trump’s biggest cheerleaders, but refused to back the President’s claims that many of the Nazi’s and White Supremacists attending the Charlottesville rally were “very fine people.”

The Quick Falling Out With Donald Trump

A downward spiral was already being witnessed by observers. For example, during an interview with The Prospect, Bannon lashed out at National Economic Council Chair Gary Cohn, contradicted the president on North Korea, and called the white nationalist movement a “collection of clowns” and “losers.”

Bannon also said he hopes Democrats “talk about racism every day.”

“The longer they talk about identity politics, I got ’em,” Bannon said. “I want them to talk about racism every day. If the left is focused on race and identity, and we go with economic nationalism, we can crush the Democrats.”

CNN reports that it was that interview that irked Donald Trump. He was also upset that Bannon appeared to claim in Josh Green’s book “Devil’s Bargain” that he was equally important it bringing Trump into the White House in November.

Trump was also allegedly irked that Bannon appeared on the cover of Time Magazine with the headline “The Great Manipulator.”

Bannon has since claimed that he didn’t believe his conversation with The Prospect’s Robert Kuttner was on the record while claiming to others that the interview was strategic.

The Voice Of Nationalists Leaves The White House

Bannon was by far the biggest supporter of nationalist sentiment in the White House. While leading Breitbart he repeatedly called the news network a “platform of the alt-right.” Breitbart is regularly visited by neo-Nazis, white nationalists, and other racially charged hate groups.

It wasn’t just Democrats calling for Bannon’s removal, many Republicans have been demanding his resignation for months, calling him one of the most controversial figures in politics.

Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio was one of the first politicians to respond to Bannon’s ouster on Friday. Sherrod said the former White House strategist “emboldened white nationalists and neo-Nazis” and “should have never been in the White House.”

“His departure is good news, and he should take his dozens of acolytes with him,” Brown added. “The real test will be what the president does next to bring our country together. In other words, the president of the United States should begin to act like the president of the United States.”

Bannon is out and that’s a welcomed change for the Red State…
